What is Jeuveau or Newtox?

What is Jeuveau?

Aging gracefully doesn’t mean you have to accept facial lines and creases. Cosmetic injectables are a minimally-invasive way to reduce the signs of aging and restore your self-confidence. There are two types of cosmetic injectables other than using your own fat for volume filling: dermal fillers and neuromodulators. Dermal fillers are used to fill in lines and creases, usually in the mid- and lower-face. Neuromodulators like Jeuveau are used to relax the facial muscles, smoothing lines and creases to produce a smooth, youthful, refreshed look.

How does Jeuveau work?

Jeuveau is made from a purified form of botulinum toxin A, a neuromodulator that temporarily halts motion in the muscles of the face that form lines and creases. When injected, Jeuveau blocks the neural signals that cause the constant muscle motions that create etched-in lines and creases. These lines and creases can make you appear tired or irritated. Injections of Jeuveau often give your face an airbrushed effect, with a smoother, refreshed, more youthful appearance.

How is Jeuveau different from BOTOX?

Both Jeuveau and BOTOX have been approved for the treatment of facial lines and wrinkles for aesthetic purposes. They are both made from the same form of botulinum toxin A, but with different manufacturing processes. BOTOX was released into the market more than a decade ago, and has since been the "gold standard" in neuromodulators, becoming a household name. Jeuveau has the benefit of modern technology and manufacturing processes, giving it a new twist on an old classic. Unlike BOTOX, Jeuveau, which has come to be known as “Newtox,” was created strictly for the aesthetic treatment of facial lines and creases.

Is there any recovery following treatment with Jeuveau?

No, since Jeuveau is non-invasive there is nearly downtime following treatment, but at Wirth Plastic Surgery, we recommend avoiding laying completely flat for the first 2 hours and ideally avoiding strenuous activities for the rest of that day.

What areas can be treated with Jeuveau?

Jeuveau has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of glabellar lines, or the bothersome vertical lines which form between your eyebrows. Like BOTOX, it may be used “off-label” for the treatment of:

  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Crow's feet
  • Neck bands and lines
