What are the Types of Rhinoplasty?

Primary Rhinoplasty

This is the procedure that most people think of when they think of rhinoplasty. It helps patients address various cosmetic challenges, such as the nose being disproportionate to the face, asymmetrical, or have aspects that are out of balance with the rest of the face.

Secondary Rhinoplasty

There are situations in which a patient is unhappy with the results of a previous rhinoplasty procedure. Whether you find yourself dealing with cosmetic issues or functional breathing problems, we can help you to achieve the final outcome you desire.

Revision Rhinoplasty

This procedure, also referred to as corrective nose surgery, focuses more on the function of the nose, addressing things like septum issues and breathing problems due to previous surgery or trauma.

Ethnic Rhinoplasty

It’s not at all uncommon to feel as though you want a rhinoplasty procedure but would also like to ensure that you don’t impact the facial characteristics that reflect your heritage. Garrett Wirth, MD, MS, FACS, can help you reach your cosmetical goals without erasing your personal characteristics!

How is the Rhinoplasty Procedure Performed?

Rhinoplasty typically takes two or more hours to complete and is performed under general anesthesia, depending on the complexity of your augmentation. Before your surgery, you and Dr. Wirth will work closely together to develop a surgical plan that aligns with your goals, going over every aspect of your procedure in detail.

In most cases, Garrett Wirth, MD, MS, FACS begins with an incision inside the nostrils to access the underlying soft tissue. A small incision is then made in the columella, the small bridge of skin between the nostrils, enabling the scar to remain nicely hidden.

Next, Dr. Wirth gently separates the skin from the underlying tissue, so that bone and cartilage can be contoured to form a new shape. Once the procedure is complete, the skin is draped back over the underlying structure and sutured. A soft nasal splint might also be placed to secure your nose during the first week of recovery.

In many cases, functional procedures that can improve your breathing will be addressed at the same time, including procedures like septoplasty, which would be considered septal rhinoplasty, spreader grafts, spreader flaps, and others.

What Is the Rhinoplasty Recovery Period Like?

Recovery times vary from patient to patient, but the first few days after your surgery are frequently the most difficult, as the area will be quite swollen. At first, you won’t be able to breathe through your nose, but this ability will be restored as the swelling subsides.

The majority of your swelling will be gone in about three to four weeks, at which point you’ll likely feel ready to show off your new look. In some cases it can take up to a year for residual swelling to fade completely, but this won’t be noticeable to anyone else.

In most cases, you should be able to return to work within 10 days, depending on your job. It’ll be very important to avoid trauma to your nose following your nose job, meaning rigorous exercise and contact sports should be avoided for several weeks.

What Happens After My Rhinoplasty Procedure?

After your nose surgery in Newport Beach, with Dr. Wirth you may be required to wear a nasal splint for up to one week, as bruising, swelling, and some pain are all normal during the initial phase of recovery. In addition to providing you with specific aftercare instructions, you may be prescribed painkillers to alleviate your discomfort. Swelling and bruising are likely to occur for several days and weeks after your nose surgery.

Rhinoplasty FAQs

How can rhinoplasty help me?

If you have spent years feeling unhappy with the look of your nose, a rhinoplasty can finally allow you to enjoy a perfectly-sculpted nose that balances and enhances your other facial features. Our patients frequently tell us that the increase in self-confidence has significantly improved their quality of life.

How does a nose job cost in Newport Beach?

Every rhinoplasty is customized to the patient’s unique goals, and some require more surgical work than others. The cost will depend upon the extent of your particular procedure, but generally ranges between $12,500 and $14,500. Your first step will be a private consultation, during which we’ll determine exactly how to craft your ideal results.

Where will the rhinoplasty incisions be placed?

The incisions will be placed either within the nostrils (known as a “closed” rhinoplasty), or in the columella, the thin strip of tissue between your nostrils. When extensive reshaping is needed, an “open” rhinoplasty is often the superior approach. For the best possible results, it may be necessary to reshape multiple areas, while a closed rhinoplasty is often utilized for less extensive changes.

Will I have visible scars after my rhinoplasty in Newport Beach?

The scars will be hidden beneath the nose structure, as the incision is at the base of the columella. They won’t be easily visible, and will fade to being almost imperceptible.

How long do I have to wait for revision rhinoplasty?

If you are considering revision rhinoplasty, it is recommended that you wait for at least one year, following your initial surgery.
