How Does Facial Fat Grafting Work?
Our Newport Beach facial fat grafting is an outpatient procedure that involves both a donor site (where the fat is removed) and a treatment site (where the fat is being transferred). Both areas will be anesthetized with a local anesthetic prior to your procedure to eliminate discomfort, at which point Dr. Wirth will use a small needle to remove fat from the donor site. Usually, the donor site will be the abdomen.
Once removed, the fat will then be cleansed and processed to remove excess fluids and damaged cells. It will then be re-injected into the treatment area using a smaller set of cannulas. This process may be repeated until the desired correction has been achieved. Fat can also be harvested through another procedure, such as liposuction or a tummy tuck, to obtain a larger amount of fat, which can then be used at a later date.
