Silicone or Saline Breast Implants
One of the most important decisions to make when you are looking into Orange County breast augmentation is whether you will choose to have silicone implants or saline implants, as most plastic surgeons (including Doctor Garrett Wirth) offer both options. This can be a hard decision to make because both silicone and saline implants have pros and cons associated with them. So, what should a you choose? We present some information to help make this decision a little simpler.
Pros & Cons of Silicone Implants
Silicone implants are a pre-filled implant that is filled with silicone gel. This gel is a cohesive product that holds it shape well. This implant is only available to women 22 and older for breast augmentation, and available to anyone who is getting breast reconstruction surgery. Some of the benefits of getting silicone implants instead of saline is that some people argue that they last longer. And when you are paying thousands of dollars for new breasts, it isn’t a bad idea to get something that will last. You will want to get your money’s worth. Keep in mind that this is still an area of debate, as are the topics of rippling, etc. Silicone implants are also said to look or feel more natural, and less likely to have rippling. This is good because natural breasts don’t ripple like implants. This is probably why most professionals, including Dr. Wirth, would say that silicone implants may have a more natural look to them.
Some of the cons of silicone gel can be what will happen if your implants rupture. If silicone implants rupture, you might not notice right away. This is because the silicone gel tends to remain trapped in the fibrous tissue that surrounds the implant called the capsule. This is what we like to call a silent rupture. You will usually have to get x-rays and an appointment with Doctor Wirth to know for sure if your implants have ruptured. This rupture might eventually cause breast pain or even change the contour or shape of your breasts, called capsular contracture.
Pros & Cons of Saline Implants
Saline implants are inserted into the breast empty and are then filled with sterile salt water (saline). These implants are available to women 18 years and older for augmentation and anyone receiving breast reconstruction. Some of the cons to getting saline implants are that they are said to look slightly more obvious. Not a lot of women seeking implants want obvious-looking breasts. No one wants to scream to the world that their breasts are fake, so this is a real concern to consider when getting breast augmentation. This does not have to happen if your implants are sized appropriately and your expectations are realistic. Another con is that they have been known in a few cases to have rippling, which does not mimic the appearance of a natural breast. Some may argue that a downside to saline implants is that if they rupture, they deflate and will the rupture will be more obviously with different breast sizes.
One of the pros to saline implants is that, if raptured, saline implants will just deflate. As your implant deflates, your body will just absorb the solution from the implant, and there are no health risks to you or your body for reabsorbing the saline. Dr Wirth will also need to surgically remove the silicone shell of your implant at the time of implant removal or exchange for a new implant.
So, now you know some of the pros and cons to choosing saline or silicone implants. Make sure to consider all of these factors when choosing which implants you want. Also make sure to talk with Dr. Garrett Wirth to decide what is the best option for you and the look you are trying to achieve as there is so much more to discuss when making this decision.
